Dongpirang Village is a captivating destination, adorned with vibrant murals that grace the walls of its winding alleys. The name of Dongpirang means eastern cliff and if you ascend the steep pathways, you'll reach Dongporu, which offers a stunning view of the port. Murals in this village were created when the villagers came together to initiate a mural contest aimed at saving their village. These murals, born from that collective effort, adorned the entire village and played a crucial role in thwarting plans to demolish it. Dongporu was originally constructed by the renowned Korean general Yi Sun-sin to oversee the port and has since undergone restoration. Visitors can climb to Dongporu to admire the murals, or if they prefer, they can relax in one of the charming cafes or shops scattered throughout the village. You may even uncover your own hidden gem among the local Korean establishments.

Tongyeong Jungang Market is a historic site with a rich 400-year history, having experienced both periods of prosperity and decline. Conveniently located near Dongpirang Village, it serves as an excellent stop before or after your visit to the village. As a bustling market, it offers a wide variety of ingredients, but it's particularly renowned for showcasing Tongyeong’s famous culinary delights. The region is especially known for its oysters, which are abundantly available during the season at affordable prices. Additionally, you can find dried fish, perfect for gifts, along with local specialties such as honey bread and Chungmu gimbap. From the market, you can also enjoy views of Gangguan, as seen from Dongporu in Dongpirang Village, making it a fantastic spot for capturing photographs of the turtle ship floating on the water!

Tongyeong is the city where the Battle of Hansando, an important naval battle that turned the tables in favor of Japan into Korea's during the Imjin War of Korea, occurred. This war is a pivotal historical event for Koreans, and Admiral Yi Sun-sin is still celebrated as a hero who defended the nation. Consequently, Yi Sun-sin Park serves to honor his legacy. A grand statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin greets visitors as it gazes toward Hansando Island, and a scenic walking path allows for leisurely strolls while enjoying views of the refreshing sea. Capture memorable photographs along the path, which is lined with exotic palm trees, or on the expansive lawn that offers a panoramic view of the ocean! In the summer, vibrant hydrangeas adorn the park, enhancing its beauty. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom, and in autumn, the maple leaves turn brilliant colors. Be sure to visit Yi Sun-sin Park, a site rich in Korean history that consistently offers breathtaking views!

Tongyeong Jirisan Mountain was originally named Jirimangsan, which means mountain where you can see Jirisan. Tongyeong Jirisan is now commonly referred to as Jirisan. From its summit, you can admire the unique rock ridges, the expansive sea, and the islands that dot the horizon. Oknyeobong Peak, in particular, is renowned for its stunning scenery. Although the ridge trail leading to the peak may pose challenges for beginners, there's an alternative route available that offers a more manageable ascent. To reach Jirisan, you must travel to Saryangdo, an island in Tongyeong. This picturesque island is nestled within Hallyeohaesang National Park, with Jirisan rising majestically at its center. The captivating landscapes that capture your attention throughout the climb require you to exercise caution as you navigate the mountain.

The Tongyeong Undersea Tunnel is a modern architectural constructed during the Japanese colonial period. It's the first undersea tunnel in East Asia and has since become a cultural asset. Located 10 meters below sea level and spanning approximately 500 meters in length, it takes about five minutes to traverse. While there may not be much to see, the tunnel features exhibits that detail its construction, as well as various historical and cultural heritage sites in Tongyeong and the history of the Tongyeong Canal. As the tunnel provides a pedestrian route between downtown Tongyeong and Mireukdo, It's highly recommended walking across the seabed at least once. It's particularly popular in the summer, as the temperature inside the tunnel remains refreshingly cool.

Tongyeong Cruise Tour offers an opportunity to sail the Tongyeong Sea aboard a cruise ship designed to resemble the turtle ship, a remarkable achievement of Admiral Yi Sun-sin! There're several routes available, but the most popular ones include a journey that showcases Jangsado and various islands in the Tongyeong Sea, as well as a landing on Hansando, where visitors can explore Jeseungdang and other nearby islands. Jangsado is renowned for its stunning seasonal blooms, featuring a variety of flowers such as hydrangeas, pink muhly, and camellias. This picturesque location has also served as a filming site for popular dramas and entertainment programs, including the drama My Love from the Star. on Jeseungdang in Hansando, was the headquarters of Admiral Yi Sun-sin and functioned as his office, where he lived and strategized military operations. Visitors can explore exhibits that provide insight into his remarkable exploits, including the site where Yi Sun-sin's portrait is enshrined. Here, you can immerse yourself in the rich history while enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
